Chalking the Gorge - Day 3 - Dysart Iowa

Janet Wilson, Rhonda Lassen, Ken Gregory and Debbie Miller move standing water off the primer this morning.

Our third day of Gorge work started off on soaked ground. We hadn't anticipated rain overnight but then, this is Iowa. We converged at 8:00 am to find lots of puddles and, unfortunately, tire tracks on our freshly painted surface, despite barricades and ample notification to residents. Hoping the police surveillance cameras will identify the culprit.

Even with constant mist we were able to chalk out the pitch of the gorge - twice. The first go at it wasn't dramatic enough for artist Mary Snyder Behrens so we started over.

As the mist increased and everyone was getting wet and cranky, we covered the chalked lines with tarps and weights courtesy of CNC Lumber in Dysart.  The team spirit and community support is what makes this such a wonderful project to be involved in.

Closing up for the day.

And we are still planning on a May 27 ribbon cutting ceremony from 4 - 6.
