The Dysart Magic Cylinder Koi Pond Illusion

In May of 2018, Vision Dysart submitted an application to the Dysart Development Corporation, the Dysart Community Foundation and the Iowa Arts Council for grant monies to fund an anamorphic illusion artwork in the Dysart City Park. In July we were notified that our application was successful and our project could move forward.

The concrete pad was installed in late August by Kevin Lassen and Bill Wilson. After 30 days of curing time a primer coat of paint was applied and the area marked in a grid. In mid-September the cylinder was fabricated and installed by Rowan Manufacturing. And then the weather took a turn and the painting would have to wait for better weather in 2019.

On one fine and very warm day in early June, Sheri Guillot, Katie Ryherd, Roy and Mary Behrens applied the mylar wrap. When the temperatures warmed and the rains paused long enough to ensure good adhesion painting began in mid-June and was completed on June 30 when the final coat of sealer was applied by Janet Wilson and Rhonda Lassen and Mary Behrens.

This project was completed successfully and on time, thanks to the nearly 200 volunteer hours of researching, designing, constructing, painting and finishing that went into it. Many thanks to all those who helped and supported this endeavor. We hope you enjoy looking at it as much as we have enjoyed bringing it into being.
